For the past few years I have been searching through endless piles of children’s literature to find the best examples of writing craft. While many great resources are available, I love how clearly this book relates the different examples of writing craft and doesn’t require multiple hours of searching for the right mentor text to supplement your writing lesson. A fantastic resource for any teacher who believes in providing the best literature for growing readers and writers!

This book is truly a gift for elementary teachers who value the teaching of writing. It’s as if someone (two well-informed, insightful and very generous reading teachers, in fact!) spent many precious hours doing all the hard work for us — combing through book after book, selecting the very best ones to “read like writers,” and exploring every possibility for teaching the craft elements within them. That all this information is presented in such a clear, reader-friendly format makes this wonderful resource all the more valuable for teachers wishing to inspire young writers, using quality children’s literature as their guide.
